What a Win!

I'm putting together this post on Monday, January 17, 2023 after watching a fantastic win by the Dallas Cowboys last night. They played as if the whole world depended on it. The opponent they faced was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but more so the GOAT quarterback Tom Brady. Tom Brady had an undefeated record against the Cowboys 😖. With a win against the Bucs the Cowboys managed to shake off a number of ball and chain records weighing them and their fan base down over the years.

As a fan of the Dallas Cowboys or any NFL football team for that matter, we often put a lot of our passion and energy into cheering on our team. But as Christians, it's important to remember that our ultimate devotion should be to God and His Word.

Just as the Cowboys work hard to perfect their craft and strive for victory on the field, (and it showed last night) we too should be constantly working on ourselves and our relationship with God. The Bible tells us in Philippians 2:12-13, "Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose."

Similarly, the Cowboys have a team effort, each player doing their part to contribute to the success of the team. In the same way, we as believers are a part of the body of Christ, each with our own unique gifts and talents to use for the advancement of His kingdom. 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 talks about how we are all one body, with different parts working together for the good of all.

Just as we can take inspiration from the Cowboys' hard work (or insert your own favorite NFL team  who is in the playoffs) and determination on the field, let us also draw inspiration from the Word of God and strive to be more like Him in our daily lives. And while we may not always understand the outcome of a game, we can trust in the Lord's plan and know that He is always working for our good.

In all things, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and not on the temporary things of this world like a football game.
