Thanksgiving Greetings!
The Psalmist writes in Psalm 95:1-2 "1 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before His presence with Thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with Psalms."
Somehow, we have come to think of Thanksgiving as a “once a year” Holiday, but it's quite clear in the Word that it's much more than that!
The idea of Thanksgiving is spread generously throughout the Psalms but is often found throughout the Bible! Leviticus 7:11-15 even tells us about an offering given as a “sacrifice of Thanksgiving .” Likewise, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us that being thankful is the will of God – “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
If you have (or have had) children or grandchildren, you know that, for the most part, thankfulness doesn't come naturally. We often have to teach them little by little, especially at Christmas, to find a way to say “thank you” to the gift-giver. We might even think it doesn't matter because it's the giving that brings us joy, not the words of thanks. Yet, it's important to remember that our young ones need to learn to take time to be thankful!
One of the ways we as a church express our thanks to the Lord is in corporate (together) worship! We come together in songs of praises and yes, even a sacrifice of Thanksgiving to appreciate all the Lord has done for us!
We take time to be thankful before our Thanksgiving meal, but for those who love the Lord, that prayer is one we pray before all our meals. God is an amazing provider!
Are you thankful? If so, why not take time out of your busy schedule to join us for worship this Sunday?
Thankful for His blessings!
